One of my greatest achievements as a young man was the goal of obtaining what was then the must have drum kit. The Ludwig Octaplus. It took me over two years of labor doing all kinds of odd jobs here and there to finally get it. Being the drummer for Clockwork was a very serious responsibility for me, as it was for all the members of this band. Insuring that we were prepared as best as we could was always on our minds, from the quality of our music to the quality of our equipment.
At that time, these drums were hand made and made from solid maple wood, not veneers.
I can recall one very painful memory when one night, while performing at a club on Coral Way in Coral Gables, I was asked to set up with a smaller kit due to stage size, forcing me leave some of my drums in the truck. At the end of the evening, as we approached the parked truck in the parking lot, we noticed that someone had broken into the rear and taken part of my Octaplus. —Carlos.
